This corner cupboard is a scaled down reproduction of a piece originally built by the "Unknown Cabinetmaker" of Eastern, North Carolina. He is known simply by his marking, "WH". The original piece stands 109 inches high, so this reproduction had to be scaled down to 90 1/2 inches in order to fit into the room with an eight foot ceiling. It is constructed of walnut with yellow pine being the secondary wood. The tympanum (or top) is accented with an ebonized leaf carving and holly inlay. |
